Biotechnology has become an important and fast-growing sector of the U.S. economy. As the industry expands, it has become a focal point of many local, regional and state economic development strategies. A recent report from the Brookings Institution, written by Joseph Cortright and Heike Mayer, examines the location and concentration of the biotechnology industry and outlines the key conditions and resources The report's findings cast a realistic light on the development of this industry and will prove useful to regions across the country trying to capture a share of biotechnology growth.
