Health association fighting heart disease and stroke

Programs

The American Heart Association uses the results of medical research to develop programs on nutrition, exercise, high blood pressure, smoking, weight management, and diabetes to help people adopt heart-healthy lifestyles

Research

Biomedical research leads to better ways to diagnose, treat and prevent heart disease and stroke. It will play a key role in AHA's efforts to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25% by 2010.

American Heart Association-funded research has contributed significantly to such lifesaving discoveries as CPR, pacemakers, bypass surgery, artificial heart valves, microsurgery and life-extending drugs.
